Founded in 1979, Seagate is the industry leader in hard disc drives and storage solutions.
From the videos, music and documents that we share with friends and family on social networks, to servers that form the backbone of enterprise data centres and cloud-based computing, to desktop and notebook computers that fuel our personal productivity, Seagate products help more people to store, share and protect their valuable digital content.
Seagate offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of hard disc drives, solid state drives and solid state hybrid drives. In addition, the Company offers an extensive line of retail storage products for consumers and small businesses, along with data recovery services for any brand of hard drive and digital media type.
Seagate employs more than 50,000 people around the world.
It took Seagate 29 years to ship 1 billion hard drives; less than five years later, Seagate became the first hard drive manufacturer to surpass the 2 billion drives milestone. This staggering growth rate is driven by the explosive demand for storage from mobile applications, cloud-computing infrastructures, social media, business applications and consumer markets.
Seagate’s innovative products make it easier for customers to access, share and protect their digital data.
These innovations include: solid-state hybrid drives that bring blazing-fast performance and high capacity to laptops and other thin-and-light systems; the first portable hard drive with its own built-in Wi-Fi network; and the industry’s broadest line of enterprise-class hard drives for traditional data centres and cloud applications.
According to Seagate market research, more than 60 per cent of storage will be delivered to cloud applications in 2020, up from 25 per cent in 2011. Seagate’s storage products for the cloud reduce energy and cooling costs, and consume nearly a third less power than competing high-capacity enterprise drives.
The company has a strong track record of collaborating with others to develop better cloud solutions. The Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance programme, for example, leverages the company’s knowledge of storage and cloud-optimised solutions to give cloud service providers the tailored, flexible and scalable server and storage solutions to meet the high levels of service their customers demand.
Seagate’s Global Citizenship (GC) programme is an integrated company-wide initiative to embed and uphold corporate social responsibility in our business. Our programme’s mission is to drive socially responsible, sustainable business practices within Seagate, and to provide oversight and assurance that such practices are managed effectively.Learn more
