As a powerhouse in storage innovations that are ideally suited to cloud-based, software-defined storage and open source deployments, Seagate has been an early partner with UTSA. With the support of industry partners, such as Seagate, UTSA students and researchers now have unparalleled opportunities to collaborate on projects that will lead to new innovations in this dynamic field.
Seagate, and UTSA are working together to collaborate and identify the optimal combination of Seagate technologies to be incorporated into various storage infrastructures from the Nytro flash accelerator cards, Nytro caching software to Seagate’s SMR drives. Together, the team of Seagate application acceleration experts and UTSA researchers are driving object-based storage clusters with Seagate building blocks within the UTSA environment. The result is an effective combination of technologies needed to meet many cloud deployments’ stringent storage performance and cost requirements.
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is an emerging Tier 1 research institution. With nearly 29,000 students, it is the largest university in the San Antonio metro region. Earlier this year, UTSA launched the Open Cloud Institute as an initiative to develop degree programs in cloud computing and big data with a key goal of fostering cooperation with the open source community and technology leaders. UTSA is already recognized as the top university in the country for cybersecurity education, with education and research programs that span its College of Engineering, and College of Sciences. The Open Cloud Institute further distinguishes UTSA as a top-tier research institution.
