DiscWizard and
DiscWizard Starter Edition with Windows 98
(DiscWizard Starter Edition is part of the
DiscWizard package)
Frequently Asked
Questions
Will DiscWizard run
under Windows 98?
Absolutely! You can use
DiscWizard to add additional hard disc drives for Windows 98. It can guide you through the
installation process with instructions customized to your system. We recommend using the
newest version of DiscWizard which supports
FAT32.
Is
DiscWizard Starter Edition
compatible with FAT32?
Yes. The DiscWizard Starter Edition
Dynamic Drive Overlay (DDO) is
compatible with Windows FAT32 beginning with DiscWizard Starter Edition
version 9.02. If you use
DiscWizard Starter Edition
to install a hard drive that
DiscWizard Starter Edition
determines does not require a DDO, it
will partition and format the drive to full capacity but will not install the
DDO.
Is there a
new version of DiscWizard Starter Edition
for Windows 98?
Yes, there is a new
version of DiscWizard Starter Edition
that supports FAT32.
In addition, the newest version also supports ATA (IDE) drives greater than 8.4 Gbytes. Click here for more information.
Can I
upgrade to Windows 98 if I am running
DiscWizard Starter Edition?
Yes.
DiscWizard Starter Edition
Dynamic Drive Overlay (DDO)
version 6.x or higher is fully compatible with all versions of Windows when using FAT16.
If you intend to use FAT32, and you have a version of DiscWizard Starter Edition
previous to version
9.02, you will need to upgrade your version of DiscWizard Starter Edition.
I needed
DiscWizard Starter Edition
before. Will I still need it with Windows 98?
Yes. If your BIOS is limited in its support for large drives, you will
need DiscWizard Starter Edition
to provide BIOS level support to access the full capacity of your
Seagate hard disc drive.
I have a
new BIOS. Can I use DiscWizard Starter Edition
to prepare my new hard disc drive for Windows 98?
Yes. DiscWizard Starter Edition
can
dramatically speed up the partition and formatting steps. On a very large drive (greater
than 6 Gbytes), this can save 30 minutes set up time! If you have a brand new BIOS,
DiscWizard Starter Edition
will only prepare the drive for the operating system. If
your BIOS is limited in its support for large drives, you will need DiscWizard Starter Edition
to
provide BIOS level driver support to access the full capacity of your Seagate hard disc
drive.
While
installing my disc drive I get the message "Invalid system disk. Replace the disk,
and then press any key."
This error message may be
caused by one of the following situations:
- The system is infected with
a boot-sector virus. This error is known to be caused by the AntiCMOS.A virus.
- The system is running
virus-protection software.
- The system is using hard
disc management software (such as DiscWizard Starter Edition,
EZ-Drive, or DrivePro) for hard disk
geometry translation. These tools provide support for hard discs with more than 1024
cylinders.
- Setup was unable to copy
the system files to the hard drive.

After
upgrading to Windows 98, my computer boots up extremely slow.
Many users with older
versions of installation software, including DiscWizard Starter Edition, may experience some conflicts
when upgrading to Windows 98 and/or migrating from a FAT 16 to a FAT 32 file system. One
symptom is slow boot up time. To fix the problem, upgrade to the latest version of DiscWizard Starter Edition. |
