Overview:

The Maxtor Central Axis Network Storage Server includes software licensed under the GNU General Public License ("GPL Software").

NOTE: This update is solely for Maxtor Central Axis Network Storage Servers!

This version of the Maxtor Central Axis Network Storage Server client software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Mac O/S X operating systems. The .ISO file creates a hybrid software CD that allows you to install the client software on both Mac and PC.

            Instructions for PC:

1.        After downloading and burning the CD ISO image to disk, run the CD and click on the Install Maxtor Central Axis Icon.

2.        Follow the instructions to complete the Central Axis Maxtor Manager client software upgrade.

3.        After the upgrade is complete, double click the Maxtor Manager Icon on your desktop and wait for your drive to be discovered.

4.        Select the drive from the Maxtor Manager My Drives window and click Settings.

5.        When the settings screen displays click on the Check for Software Update button, and add a check mark to the automatic updates box, then click apply.  

Note: The MaxBack backup feature included with the client software does not support backup from remote desktops. If you have more than one PC on your home network requiring backup, this client software must be installed and administered from the desktop of each computer requiring a backup.

             Instructions for Mac:

1.        After downloading and burning the CD ISO image to disk, run the CD and click on the Install Maxtor Central Axis Icon.

2.        Follow the instructions to complete the Central Axis Maxtor Manager client software upgrade.

3.        After the installation is complete click on the Maxtor Central Axis Manager icon on your desktop and supply the the password to start the MaxBack engine. 

4.        After your Central Axis is discovered in the Maxtor Central Axis Manager main window click on the Help menu at the top of the Maxtor Manager window and select the software update option.

5.        When the software update window displays click the Check for updates automatically option, and click the check now button.

6.        After the software update window informs you that you are up to date click OK. 

The auto update feature included in the Maxtor Central Axis Manager application is enabled by default during initial install and automatically checks for software updates once a month allowing you to keep your Maxtor Manager software up to date. This page is provided for those of you that elected to disable the feature.
