The Portable Hard Drive sold by Seagate does not require additional drivers for most environments (see the notes below for your specific operating system). Also keep in mind that you might have to load drivers for your USB host adapter before you can see the drive in the operating system.

Windows Vista
No additional drivers are needed for these operating systems. The drivers for external drives (such as FreeAgent, OneTouch, Seagate portable, and Seagate pushbutton lines) are included as part of Vista and normally load automatically, but occasionally the drivers will need to be loaded manually. Windows XP / 2000 / Me
No additional drivers are required for these operating systems. The drivers that ship with these operating systems should automatically load when the drive is connected.

Windows XP - If using Windows XP, service pack 1 added support for USB 2.0. If you are running Windows XP without a service pack, then you might not get the full performance of the drive.

Windows 2000 - Windows 2000 service pack 4 made several enhancements including adding support for USB 2.0 to Windows 2000. If you are running Windows 2000 without service pack 4 or higher, you might not get the full performance of your drive.

Windows Me - Certain OEM installations of Windows Me call for the file USBNTMAP.SYS while attempting to load drivers for the external drive. This file can be located on the Windows Me installation or recovery CD in the WIN9XBASE2.CAB folder.

Windows 98 SE
If you are using the USB connection in Windows 98, additional drivers are required. Download the drivers for Windows 98 and USB connections.

Macintosh OS X
No additional drivers are required for Mac OS X to see the drive. The first time you use the drive, however, you might have to format the drive for your operating system. See our document on how to initialize your drive for use with a Macintosh.
