Seagate is the Storage 'Remedy' for Pop Star Jason Mraz's Tour

Jason Mraz garnered two 2009 Grammy Award nominations for his music.

Although Seagate was not the subject of Jason Mraz’s affections in his No. 1 hit song, "I’m Yours," the company's FreeAgent external storage products still hold a special place in his life—because they help hold a lot of special moments from his life.

Seagate partnered with Mraz’s videographer and editor, Jarrod Allen, to help capture, edit store and backup video and sound for the pop star's recent U.S. tour. On the road with Mraz and his band are the Seagate FreeAgent Go, FreeAgent Desk and FreeAgent XTreme storage solutions.

Mraz, 31, is a singer-songwriter whose hits include "Remedy," "You and I Both," and "Curbside Prophet." His track, "I'm Yours" (from the album "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.") scored nominations for Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal at the 2009 Grammy Awards. The song spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts and is among the best-selling singles on iTunes.

As part of the partnership with Seagate Allen created a video describing the fundamental role storage plays in a musician's life and business—and why it's critical for that storage to be robust, reliable and easy to use. With high-definition video requiring about 1 gigabyte of storage per minute, a two-to-three-hour concert uses a lot of storage quickly. And with each live performance being unique and irreplaceable, Mraz and team need to trust the storage products they choose.

Videographer Allen estimates he consumes between 16-GB-to-32-GB of storage each day, compiling weekly YouTube video updates on the Jason Mraz tour and collecting footage for an upcoming documentary on Mraz.

"We were so excited to see an inside look at the on-the-road life of an artist like Jason Mraz and how he and his video team use our products," said Jeff Fochtman, director of marketing for Seagate's Consumer Solutions Division. "The FreeAgent product line is a hit with them, and this is not a surprise. Our reliable and innovative products, combined with our PR efforts in this area, have made Seagate the ‘go-to’ brand for artists and creative professionals worldwide."

Mraz's band mates also benefitted from Seagate's product sponsorship.  Band members Reggie Watkins (trombone), Carlos Sosa (saxophone) and Fernando Castillo (trumpet) travel with Mraz and record constantly on the road.

In the video created by Allen, Sosa asks when entering the sound room, "What are we using today, Reggie?"

Watkins responds, holding a FreeAgent Go: "This one—Seagate—it’s the best."

“Seagate's drives have been working out well and I’m super-psyched to be working with them,” says Allen. “Everyone’s pretty stoked.”

Who knows? With that kind of testimonial for Seagate’s storage products, maybe Mraz will title his next album, "We Sing. We Dance. We Store Things."
