Transportation Safety

Each Seagate facility has developed a local bus safety standard operating procedure, with many best practices shared among geographies. In locations where Seagate provides transportation to employees between the factory and their homes (Penang, Malaysia, and Korat and Teparuk in Thailand), measures are in place to help ensure employee in-transit safety. Each of these facilities has developed a local bus safety standard operating procedure, with many best practices shared among geographies. The program at Penang was the model that Seagate used to build the busing program globally.

Safety staff at the Penang facility requires seat belts and speed limits for all buses, created a bus-safety complaint hotline, and designed a new traffic system and bus parking area. In addition, the contractors managing the service are regularly checked regarding driving hours restrictions and vehicle inspections. The Penang team is currently working on improving the bus driver selection criteria and driver training programs, which are critical factors in safety performance.
