Seagate® Hard Drives:

Model Numbers

  1. If the drive is in hand
The best place to find the model number and serial number of your drive is to look at the top cover of the drive and find the ST number for the model number and the number label "serial:" or "s/n" for the serial number.

  2. If the drive is still in the computer: X86 / Pentium Class computers
If the drive is still installed in the system you can use our SeaTools diagnostic software to determine the model number and serial number. Start by downloading SeaTools, create the bootable diskette by double-clicking the downloaded file, and select the short test. The model number and serial number will appear on the screen to select for a short test.

  3. If the drive is still in the computer: Macintosh computers
If the drive is still installed in your Macintosh, you can use the Apple System Profiler to determine the model number and serial number.

Mac OS 8.5 through 9.22: Go to Apple Menu > Apple System Profiler > Devices and Volumes and click the down arrow next to your Seagate drive. Look for "Product ID" and "Serial number".

Mac OS X: Double-click your Macintosh hard drive icon (usually located in the upper right-hand corner of your OS X desktop). Go to Applications > Utilities > Apple System Profiler > Devices and Volumes and click the down arrow next to your Seagate drive. Look for "Product ID" and "Serial number".
