Why can't I locate my data when there are multiple BlackArmor NAS 440 units on the network?

Troubleshooting in case BlackArmor Backup has problems locating backup location when multiple, BlackArmor NAS 440/420 devices are connected to a network.

Seagate BlackArmor Backup - Problems locating backup location when multiple, BlackArmor NAS 440/420 devices are connected to a network.

BlackArmor Backup gives alphabetical priority to BlackArmor NAS 440 names when multiple servers are on the same network segment. This means that a BlackArmor NAS 440 named "Server_A" will have all of its Backup Licenses assigned to computers before a BlackArmor NAS 440 named "Server_B". This could prove confusing to users when they have personal mapped shares on Server_B and their backup is on Server_A.

To get around this, it is suggested that users do the following when initially setting up BlackArmor Backup:

  1. Launch Seagate BlackArmor Backup.
  2. Windows Vista users - Click Continue at the User Account Control window.
  3. When prompted to discover the license server, do not accept the default. Rather, manually enter the IP Address of the BlackArmor NAS 440 to which you wish to store your backups.
