How to Charge Your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD

There are multiple ways to charge your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD.  You can use the wall adapter that was included with the product, or you can use the charging block that comes with most phones or tablets, as well as external batteries.

Items to Note and Recommendations:

  • The charging speed will depend on how you charge your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD.  For example, charging from a battery is typically slower than plugging your device into the wall.
  • If the LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD is in use while it is charging, it may not gain battery charge depending on how it is charging.  If you are charging your device with less than 1.5 Amps and using it at the same time, you may even lose charge even with your device plugged in.
  • If you're trying to cut weight out of your bag and you plan on bringing an external battery, feel free to leave the included power supply at home or at the office. Just be aware of the slower charging speed that you may get with an external battery.
  • If you know you will have a dedicated power source on site, bring the included power supply for the fastest possible charging when you need it.

Charging with the Included Wall Adapter:

The wall adapter that is included with your product plugs into the round charging port on your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD.  This is one of the fastest ways to charge the device as it charges as 1.5 Amps.  Note: To avoid damage to your device, please only use the provided charger when using this charging port.

Charging with a USB-C Device:

You can also charge your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD using a USB-C wall adapter that comes with some phones, tablets, and computers.  Charging your device with a USB-C wall adapter should also charge at 1.5 Amps depending on the adapters specifications.  This requires a USB-C to USB-C cable and a wall adapter with a USB-C port built in.  You can also use an external battery that has a USB-C port on it.

Charging with a Computer, or a USB-A Device:

You can also charge your LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD using a USB port on your computer, or a traditional USB-A wall adapter or external battery.  Please be aware that this will typically charge at a slower rate of about 1 Amp.  You can use the USB-A to USB-C cable that comes with your device to connect it.  If you do charge your device with this method, you will not be able to connect a phone or tablet to it at the same time due to USB-A limitations.
