This article provides valuable information to fix issues accessing the 5big or 8big after updating to macOS 10.12.1 (Sierra)

Issue:
After updating to MacOS to Sierra (10.12.1), you may experience:
  • Permission issues and write errors (error code -36 or -50): The RAID volume may not mount so writing data to your device or accessing data from it may not be possible.The LaCie RAID Manager main view may report that device is not connected. See image below:

To resolve the issue, please download and install the latest version of LaCie RAID Manager v2  here.

Once the installation is complete, you should be able to use your device as normal.
