NAS 2.0 includes a function to automatically choose and maintain the most suitable RAID mode for your disks with emphasis on security and fault tolerance.
Note: No RAID modes offer hot-spare options.
The RAID mode it will choose depends on the amount of disks available to the unit:
- 1 Disk = Inactive
- 2 Disks = RAID 1
- 3-5 Disks = RAID 5
If new disks are added, they will be automatically sensed and the RAID mode will change to accommodate them. Do not add new disks to the unit if data retention is a concern.
If you want to use a RAID mode other than RAID 1 or 5 you will need to disable the Auto function and select the RAID type manually.
This can be accomplished by clicking on the "Manage" button at the top of the RAID management screen.
In Manual mode, you will be presented with the following options, depending on the device and how many disks are installed:
- 1 Disk = Inactive
- 2 Disks = RAID 0, RAID 1
- 3 Disks = RAID 0, RAID 5
- 4 Disks = RAID 0, RAID 0+1, RAID 10, RAID 5
- 5 Disks = RAID 0, RAID 5, RAID 6
