Mounting a volume/share with Ubuntu is quite simple. The following provides two options for mounting volume/shares using Ubuntu 's Gnome GUI:
Option 1 - Mounting a Public Share
- From the Desktop, click Places - Network. The Network - File Browser window opens, showing discovered devices on the network segment.
- Double-click on a BlackArmor NAS 440 listed. A window opens, showing Share names of the Server.
- Right-click on a known, Public Share and select Mount Volume. The share automatically mounts on the Desktop.
Option 2 - Mounting a Private Share
- From the Desktop, click Places - Network. The Network - File Browser window opens, showing discovered devices on the network segment.
- Double-click on a BlackArmor NAS 440 listed. A window opens, showing Share Names of the Server.
- Double-click on a known, Private Share. The Enter Password window opens.
- Enter the password in the field provided.
- Click Connect. The share mounts on the Desktop.
Using Connect to Server Methods for Mounting Volumes/Share
This method almost completely mimics its Mac OS X Counterpart. The following provides two options for mounting volumes/shares using Ubuntu's Connect to Server method:
Option 1 - Using Connect to Server to Mount a Public Share:
- From the Desktop, click Places - Connect to Server. The Connect to Server window opens.
- Click on the Services drop-down field and chose Windows Share.
- In the fields provided, enter the Server's Name or IP Address, followed by the Share Name.
- Click Connect. The share mounts on the Desktop.
Option 2 - Using Connect to Server to Mount a Private Share:
- From the Desktop, click Places - Connect to Server. The Connect to Server window opens.
- Click on the Services drop-down field and chose Windows Share.
- In the fields provided, enter the Server 's Name or IP Address followed by the Share Name and a User Name to authenticate.
- Click Connect. The Enter Password window opens.
- Enter the password in the field provided.
- Click Connect. The share mounts on the Desktop.
Additional Information:
For Ubuntu or other versions of Linux not using graphical interfaces, the mount command can be used to mount a share:
mount blackarmor:/public /shares
Where blackarmor is the name of the server and public is the name of the share on the BlackArmor NAS and /shares is the local folder where the share will be mounted. .
Note: The folder used in the place of shares folder must exist on the local machine for this to work.
