Oedo Telecom is a Japanese telecommunications company that provides innovative communication solutions to improve business productivity and customer interactions for enterprise companies. As the organization transitioned to IP telephony and faced rising data center costs, its leadership aimed to modernize the infrastructure and reduce dependence on physical servers. Seagate Exos® X 2U24 storage system helped Oedo streamline operations and reduce the number of physical servers. With Seagate ADAPT RAID technology, the organization simplified disk failure management, reducing downtime and maintenance efforts.
The story.
Oedo Telecom offers flexible computer telephony integration (CTI) solutions and communication services for users in large corporations, internal call centers, and companies promoting telework. With direct connections to major carriers, Oedo provides various services—including computer telephony integration (CTI) systems for call centers, cloud-based private branch exchange (PBX) systems, and session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking—using internet protocol to connect telephony endpoints with data networks.
The company’s core mission is to deliver high-quality communication services at affordable prices. Oedo meets the needs of enterprises that require high-quality telecommunications services in a rapidly evolving technological environment.

Telecommunications providers need to maintain high performance in both sound quality and connectivity.
The goal.
As Japan transitioned from the old Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to modern IP telephony, Oedo Telecom was tasked with providing businesses with a cost-effective, reliable, and scalable communications solution. To cope with this change, the company looked to upgrade its infrastructure.
Oedo aimed to leverage this shift by offering flexible services that meet enterprise needs, such as cloud-based PBX systems and SIP trunking, while keeping operational costs low. With a focus on modernization, including the adoption of virtualization and advanced storage solutions, leadership wanted to further their commitment to efficiency, customer satisfaction, and staying competitive in a rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape.
The challenge.
Rising electricity prices and data costs posed budgeting challenges for Oedo Telecom. The company relied on physical servers and struggled to migrate from a PSTN to an IP-based system. Managing numerous servers was resource intensive and costly to maintain.
Beyond costs and technical challenges, Oedo Telecom had to navigate strict regulatory requirements for call quality and service reliability. As a telecommunications provider, the company is expected to maintain high-performance standards, like consistent sound quality and connectivity. Providing this level of quality became even more vital as they transitioned to IP telephony. To remain competitive with large carriers, Oedo had to balance innovation with the pressure to deliver cost-effective and reliable services, while keeping operations secure and compliant with government standards.
The solution.
To address ongoing challenges and handle the increasing demands of its transitioning infrastructure, Oedo Telecom recognized the need for a more efficient and scalable data storage solution. Initially, the company considered solutions from other vendors. However, after evaluating the company’s needs—particularly around cost, disk I/O performance, and RAID rebuild time and cost balance—leadership determined these options were insufficient for their specific requirements.
At the same time, Tomorrow Net Co., Ltd. (a primary distributor of Supermicro with experience in proposing IT solutions) introduced Oedo Telecom to Seagate's solution. After receiving the proposal, Oedo Telecom decided to adopt the Exos X 2U24 hybrid storage system, which simplified disk failure management and improved overall operational efficiency with its proprietary ADAPT RAID technology. As anticipated, downtime and maintenance work decreased after deployment.
Exos X 2U24 brought the following improvements to Oedo Telecom:
Significant operational cost savings. Oedo Telecom reduced required server racks by half, which lowered operational costs and cut power consumption by one-third, significantly reducing energy expenses.
Reduced server count. With Exos X 2U24, 80 servers were consolidated to two 2U storage devices, streamlining operations and simplifying management.
Enhanced operational efficiency. Scalable, cost-effective storage was deployed to make sure the system design could continuously meet growing data demands.
Improved storage performance. Oedo scaled down operational workload-related disk failures, promoting high availability and reliability for IP telephony services.
Highly scalable system. To develop a system architecture that could consistently satisfy growing data demands, a scalable and economical storage solution was put into place.

The success.
With Exos X 2U24, Oedo Telecom achieved a smoother, more reliable workflow, enhancing the company’s ability to serve customers efficiently. The RAID rebuild times, disk I/O performance, and Seagate ADAPT RAID technology reduced downtime and maintenance workloads. The company met the demand for the transition to IP telephone while reducing costs and increasing service speeds. Going forward, Oedo Telecom will continue to utilize Seagate’s highly reliable and scalable storage infrastructure to provide optimal services to its customers.
