Return to Global Citizenship Overview
Seagate is committed to sustainable digital storage – to improving the sustainability of each terabyte (TB) of storage we design, produce and ship. Compared to a 2010 baseline, we made significant improvements in five key indicators of sustainability, (energy in use/TB, climate change/TB, human toxicity/TB, metal depletion/TB, water depletion/TB).
Change in impacts per TB-year, 2010-2020
Seagate completes detailed sustainability assessments for products in each of its market segments and major packaging types. Our product and packaging assessments measure performance against four sustainability priorities.
Energy and Greenhouse Gases
Using less energy during manufacture and product use and reducing the Greenhouse Gas footprint.
Scarce Resources
Reducing our use of scarce metals and water resources during the life cycle of our products.
Materials Efficiency (Circularity)
Using more recycled materials, extending product function and life, recovering value at the end of use.
Seagate’s goal is to be transparent, accurate and credible with respect to the sustainability assessment of our products. To meet this goal we have partnered with Anthesis and Footprinter in developing and managing a scalable suite of tools to allow us to assess the more than 4,000 different products Seagate designs, builds and sells worldwide. Our tools and approach have been 3rd-party critically reviewed and verified.
