Since its first issue in 1988, dpi Magazine, an internationally renowned magazine about design, has published 116 issues detailing the evolution of the design community in Taiwan. However, due to a growing library of digital assets including photos and reference materials, archiving and maintaining digital content has become a difficult task.
Prior to adopting Seagate ® FreeAgent ® drives, dpi Magazine struggled accommodate its editorial production needs. “We have invested a significant amount of time and resources trying to preserve information yet we’re faced with a difficult situation where the lack of storage limits the quality of our work,” concedes dpi Magazine editor-in-chief, Chun-Qin Liao.
dpi Magazine diligently archives all of its content in the digital format, and the amount of information adds up rapidly as growing picture quality in photography and graphic design demands vast storage capacity. After using Seagate ® FreeAgent ® external storage solutions, Liao no longer worries about digital storage.
With 1.5 terabytes of storage capacity available, and the ability to expand, the Seagate ® FreeAgent XTreme™ storage solution provides the ideal storage solution to archive past magazine issues and maintain dpi Magazine’s digital library. Moreover, we are now able to work with high quality, high resolution graphic designs and photos without running out of storage,” says Liao.
Liao and his colleagues use a FreeAgent Go™ drive when they need to access data on the go.
When dpi Magazine editors leave the office to conduct interviews or attend meetings, they carry the compact and portable FreeAgent Go™ external drive with them because it offers freedom to travel yet the data is available at their fingertips.
The editors who used Seagate ® FreeAgentGo™ drives fell in love with the ultra-thin and stylish design, as well as the starlit LED illumination,” remarks Liao. “They are also impressed by the docking station. They simply place a Seagate ® FreeAgent Go™ external drive on the docking station and the information is instantly available on the computer. It’s the ideal portable storage solution.”
Editors at dpi Magazine also love the Seagate ® FreeAgent Go™ drive because it integrates security with convenience and esthetics. Seagate’s new FreeAgent ® portable storage solution features Seagate Manager™ software, which automates file synchronization and scheduled backup, and provides data security management. This feature makes file management a breeze for users. Additionally, the Seagate ® FreeAgent Xtreme™ drive offers an eSATA interface that brings rapid data transfer speeds, which dramatically reduce the time required to access or retrieve data.
dpi Magazine is devoted to bringing our readers the most comprehensive coverage of news and trends in the design community,” says Liao. “Therefore, our work demands the most advanced large capacity storage solutions that enable us to archive large amounts of data and perform backups regularly, without having to worry about data security and integrity.”
Seagate ® FreeAgent ® drives exceeded our expectations and made data storage simple,” admits Liao.
Seagate Taiwan country manager Rex Dong thinks innovation and in-depth research are key to Seagate’s success in meeting consumer needs.
We’re delighted to see that Seagate ® FreeAgent ® drives have become a trusted solution to safely store critical information for dpi Magazine, remarks Dong. “As new digital storage needs emerge, Seagate will continue to innovate and bring leading-edge, versatile and reliable storage solutions to professionals and everyday consumers”
