Seagate's Limavady facility is celebrating on the double after picking up two prestigious awards for quality and social responsibility. The Company's media substrate operation has been awarded the internationally recognised Mark of Excellence for quality management and, in a separate scheme, Seagate Limavady has also been granted the Business in the Community Award for Social Responsibility.
Both awards were made during a gala evening at Belfast's Ramada Hotel hosted by the Centre for Competitiveness. The Mark of Excellence Award, which is accredited by the Centre, uses the highly respected European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Model as a benchmark. The Mark of Excellence is an all-Ireland based recognition scheme that is designed to showcase examples of best practice. Seagate Limavady is the first large manufacturing operation to achieve the honour.
Joe Donnelly, vice president of Seagate Limavady, commented: "This award is proof positive we are meeting our goal to achieve excellence in everything we do. However, the journey to excellence is an ongoing one and we are focused on continuous improvement in the way we do business and delivering added value to our customers. Both awards are very important to us and a tremendous achievement by all at Limavady."
Seagate Limavady was also presented with the first ever Business in the Community Award for Social Responsibility.
Deputy chief executive of Business in the Community, Kieran Harding, explained why Seagate had been chosen for the award. "We looked at all the submissions for Excellence Awards and, in making our decision, focused on the society results element of the model, and the linkages organisations made between it and each of the other elements."
He added: "In Seagate's case, there were three clear factors which put them ahead of the other contestants. They have a clear commitment to society in their core business objectives, ensuring a strategic approach; their environmental management is outstanding, and they have a very focused approach to building relations with local community organisations in the Limavady area, ensuring a strong community impact. We were delighted to present Seagate with this award, and I hope other organisations will take note from their example, and build on their social responsibility and community impact as part of their approach to excellence."
