During his 11-year tenure at SBC, Kiernan was responsible for all financial affairs, which included business planning, accounting, tax matters, auditing, investment management, financing, and investor and shareholder relations.

Prior to joining SBC, Kiernan spent 20 years in public accounting as an auditor, consultant and practice executive. He was a partner with Ernst & Young, where he held several positions, including head of the firm's management consulting practice in Florida and as an audit-coordinating partner and managing partner of its St. Louis office.
Kiernan serves on the boards of LaBranche and Company, Inc, Health Management Associates, Inc., Horace Mann Educators Corporation, and Viad Corporation. His professional memberships include the American Institute of CPAs and the Financial Executives Institute.
Kiernan holds a B.S. degree from Boston College and an MBA from Florida State University. He also served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy.
