The festival has opted for a "Heroes and Villains" theme this year, and John Spangler, plant manager of Seagate's Springtown facility, is delighted for the second year in succession to have been the 'good guy' who has secured star billing for Seagate Technology.
Announcing sponsorship of the event, Mr Spangler said; "This is a perfect opportunity for Seagate to demonstrate the significance of its technology to the film industry. Nearly every major film made today employs digital storage technology for visual effects, digital imaging and editing. In the past year major international films such as 'Cold Mountain' and 'Cat in the Hat' have been produced thanks to the help of Seagate Technology's fast, reliable, high quality hard disc drives.
"It's also a great opportunity for us to act as good corporate citizens, supporting community life in the area from which we draw our workforce. Importantly, the Festival makes a significant impact on the local economy of the region and is developing its potential to attract visitors from Ireland and beyond. This is not only an extremely prestigious and important celebration of cinema, it's also, in typical Derry style, great fun and generates fantastic support, interest and attendance."
Hundreds of contemporary and cutting edge films will be screened across eight venues during the ten days of Festival. In addition there will be master classes in the arts of special effects, directing and acting with panel discussions and opportunities for the public to come face to face with some of their cinema heroes.
The Festival also presents major national and international competitions, showcasing the work of new filmmakers and animators.
The eagerly anticipated programme details of the 17th Seagate Foyle Film Festival will be announced at special events in Derry on 2 November, in Belfast on 3 November and in Dublin on 4 November.
