Panicking Poultry on the Loose! Seagate-Sponsored 5K at Boulder Reservoir to Benefit Multiple Sclerosis

Watch out for a wild turkey or two at the Fourth Annual Panicking Poultry 5K Run/Walk for MS, sponsored by Seagate Technology. The fun gets underway on Sunday, November 13, at 9:30 a.m. at the Boulder Reservoir.

Among the 500 to 600 runners and walkers expected at this year's event, it'll be easy to spot the turkeys-these oversized birds are close to six feet tall and weigh nearly 200 pounds. One of the birds was sighted last week in Longmont, just east of Seagate, the official sponsor of the Panicking Poultry 5K. This increasingly popular pre-Thanksgiving race benefits the Colorado Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This year's race is bigger and better than ever, with a Corporate Team Challenge, a Kids' Fun Run, a canned-food drive for local charities, a silent auction to raise additional funds for MS, lots of cool prizes and a post-race meal donated by Carrabba's Italian Grill of Louisville.

"Seagate is proud to sponsor an event that's fast becoming a tradition for so many in Boulder County and beyond," said Seagate vice president Andy Davis. "But more important are the benefits of this race to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in its fight to find a cure for MS."

Register online for the Panicking Poultry 5K Run/Walk for MS at http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1185354 or at the Boulder Running Company, at 2775 Pearl St., until noon on Nov. 12. Or register on race day at the Boulder Reservoir.

About Multiple Sclerosis and the National MS Society
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild such as numbness in the limbs or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, but the unpredictable physical and emotional effects can be lifelong. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are giving hope to those affected by the disease.

There are about 400,000 Americans with MS, and every week about 200 people are diagnosed with the disease. Colorado has one of the highest incidence rates of MS in the U.S., with about 7,900 Coloradoans living with the disease, 73 percent of whom are women.
