Plasma-Z and Revenger Robot Teams Share Winning Position in Robocup Thailand Championship 2006; Seagate Helps Sponsor Science and Technology-Driven Competition

BANGKOK, Thailand - Two teams, Chulalongkorn University's Plasma-Z and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi's Revenger, share the winning position in the 2006 Robocup Thailand Championship, which was organized by Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited, Thai Robotics Society and Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Engineering.

Unity, team spirit and a comparable level of technical skills were major factors for the judging committee in deciding that both teams should share the winning position in the Robocup Thailand Championship. These two teams were also awarded a cash prize of 250,000 baht.

Other prizes also awarded included: Songkhla University's Khai-nui robot team, which finished in second place and Songkhla University's The Little Knight team, which finished third and received 30,000 baht.

Plasma-Z team from Chulalongkorn University won the Technical Challenge Award and also received three Seagate hard disc drives with 250 GB of storage capacity each.

The primary objective of the Robocup Thailand competition is to develop students' knowledge and interest in science and technology, giving them a foundation of skills needed for successful careers.

"This contest also emphasizes teamwork skills," said Associate Professor Dr. Prabhas Chongstitvatana, president of the Thai Robotics Society. "By working in teams, students learn to solve problems together and create innovative solutions to the kinds of challenges they'll face every day in the working world of industry."

"Seagate takes great pride in cooperating with the Thai Robotics Society and Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Engineering in hosting this year's Robocup event," said Sampan Silapanad, Seagate vice president of Korat Operations. "During the past three years, the winning teams have shown the benefits of the practical experience they gained from this contest. They bring new ideas, enthusiasm and energy to the field of robotics and technology."
