Seagate's "Little Voices" Charity Golf Event Raises S$40,000 For Singapore Children's Society

Seagate Technology announced today that it has raised a total of S$40,000 for the Singapore Children's Society through a charity golf event held at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

The funds, raised through the "Little Voices" Charity Golf 2003, will go towards supporting two of the Society's social services:

* The Henderson Student Care Centre provides before- and after-care services to primary school children from low-income families. Funds will be used for a much-needed facilities upgrade of the centre as well as fee subsidies and other family support.

* A Convalescent home offering protection and care to children who are abused or neglected. Funds will be used for the purchase of IT equipment and software at its new location in Choa Chu Kang as well as for food and lodging for 30 children under the care of the Home.

"We believe that every child should have hope, happiness and opportunity, regardless of their social and economic backgrounds," said Teh Ban Seng, Seagate vice president and managing director for Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing. "Through our work with the Singapore Children's Society, Seagate hopes to close the opportunity gap these children face."

Ms Wong Mei Yin, Head of Convalescent Home, said, "Children are our future. The kindness of our sponsors and donors is the deepest wisdom that the Children's Society is most grateful for. This is not the first time that Seagate has kindly extended their generosity to our children and we are happy that corporate organizations like Seagate are chipping in to help the community out."

Since 2001, Seagate has been working closely with the Society to develop educational programs that provide developmental growth combined with an element of fun and interactivity.

"Children are an innocent lot and each one of us in the community has a part to play in shaping their future. These kids need our assistance and we are grateful that Seagate has contributed so much to create a positive impact in their lives," said Ms Hong Kim Beng, Head of the Henderson Student Care Centre.

The charity gold outing will conclude with a light evening program comprising of a sit-down dinner and musical performances. Cultural Medallion winner, Jeremy Monteiro, and his trio will croon children's tunes in his inimitable signature jazz style while St. Nicholas Girls' School will perform a high-energy cheerleading number. Children from the Society will also take to the stage with a musical number of their own.
