The 150,000,000 discs shipped marks a significant milestone for Singapore's RMO because it was opened just a little over three years ago. All the disc media produced here are integrated into Seagate disc drives manufactured at the Company's Singapore, Perai, Shenzhen and Wuxi plants.
"This milestone is a significant achievement for Seagate and especially for our Singapore employees. They have played a major role in producing the world's most advanced media for computer hard disc drives," said Mr. Phillip J. Maher, vice president, Asia Pac, RMO. "I am also proud to say that today's announcement helps to further strengthen Seagate's position as the world's largest supplier of disc media."
Seagate's technological advancements have helped increase areal density at a rate of what is currently more than 100 percent annually. Seagate's highest capacity disc drive, the Cheetah 73 Gbyte, can store more than 24,000 MP3 songs or more information than 36,000 trees made into paper and printed.
The history of Seagate Singapore's RMO, which was the 20-year old Company's first and largest media manufacturing facility outside North America, is indicative of Seagate's growth and accomplishments. This state-of-the-art media manufacturing plant in Singapore produces over half of Seagate's internal output of disc media, bringing some of the industry's most advanced manufacturing and process technologies to the region.
