Seagate Recording Head Group Promotes Michael Caulfield to Vice President

Seagate Technology, Inc. (NYSE:SEG), the worldLs largest manufacturer of recording heads, today announced the promotion of Michael Caulfield to vice president, Springtown Wafer Operations, Seagate Recording Head Group. Based at the companyLs wafer fabrication facility in Northern Ireland, Caulfield will continue to oversee daily manufacturing operations and be responsibe for the site's technical development and operational growth. He will continue to report to G. Patrick Bonnie, senior vice president, Recording Head Group.

"Springtown supports the production of more than 300,000 heads daily (or 100 million annually), nearly half of the company's industry-leading production volume of inductive and magnetoresistive recording heads," said Bonnie. "Under MichaelLs direction and leadership, the world class Springtown operation significantly outperformed our original business expectations. Additionally, Michael has played an integral role in the establishment of the Springtown Research and Development Center, which is emerging as a significant resource in the development of advanced tape and disc head technology. I strongly believe that Michael's talents will continue to contribute both to the success of the Springtown operations and Seagate Technology."

Joining Seagate in 1993, Caulfield guided the company's Northern Ireland operations through nearly three years of continuous growth, and today the facility employs nearly 800 people. Caulfield brings over 24 years experience in process intensive manufacturing, having held technical and management positions in semiconductor, printed circuit, ceramic, food and tobacco industries in Northern Ireland. Prior to his career with Seagate, Caulfield held the position of managing director of Seagoe Ceramics where he was responsible for design, manufacture, sales and marketing activities for a wide range of advanced ceramics products and components. Before Seagoe, he held positions with Cantrell & Cochrane Ltd., Irlandus Circuits Ltd., Rothmans (UK) Ltd., and International Rectifier Ltd.

Caulfield earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and holds a diploma in management studies from Northern Ireland Polytech.
