Seagate Sweeps 2006 System Builders Choice Awards for Hard Drives

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - System builders for the second consecutive year have crowned Seagate (NYSE:STX) the top provider of hard drives on the strength of enterprise, desktop and notebook drives that deliver the highest levels of performance, capacity and reliability.

Seagate took the top spot in last year's poll of Canada's top 300 system builders, the inaugural year of the CRN Canada System Builders Choice Awards, and repeated the feat in 2006 as the system pros ranked vendors in 18 product areas. Seagate, which won in the hard drive performance and capacity categories, was among vendors evaluated in areas such as product quality, reliability, compatibility, salability, profitability, and availability, vendor responsiveness, and marketing, sales and technical support.

"A big congratulations goes to Seagate for being recognized by Canada's system builders for the second straight year," said Andrew McKay, editor of CRN Canada. "There is no greater honor than being recognized by the partners who work with these products every day, and Seagate is to be commended for upholding its high level of quality and service for 2006."

"This prestigious honor reflects Seagate's commitment to providing system builders with the world's finest hard drives and with channel programs that enable them to thrive in a very competitive marketplace," said Jeff Loebbaka, senior vice president of Global Channel Sales and Corporate Marketing at Seagate. "We are proud to be working with Canada's system builders, helping them accelerate time-to-market, expand their customer base and increase profits with best-in-class products and programs."

The company's flagship Seagate Partner Program (SPP), gives system builders and resellers channel programs and tools to expand their server, desktop PC and notebook business. The program provides national, regional and local whitebox and whitebook system builders with the technical expertise and marketing resources needed to deliver Seagate storage to a broader range of customers. Seagate has long been a technology favorite of system builders. Recently, Seagate began shipping the world's first 3.5-inch desktop PC hard drive family, Barracuda 7200.10, with perpendicular recording technology. Barracuda 7200.10 combines up to a monstrous 750GB of capacity with a 3Gbit/second Serial ATA interface and Native Command Queuing to meet the growing storage capacity, performance and reliability requirements of desktop computers and low-end servers.

Last month, Seagate also began shipping the industry's first enterprise drive, Cheetah 15K.5, with perpendicular recording to deliver capacities up to 300GB, a 30 percent performance increase and the best price-performance in its class. The Cheetah 15K.5 hard drive enables a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprise applications ranging from e-mail, Internet and e-commerce to business processing and decision support.

In January, Seagate shipped Momentus 5400.3, the world's first 2.5-inch notebook PC hard drive with perpendicular recording and up to 160GB of capacity. Seagate now leverages the capacity-boosting technology across its desktop, notebook, enterprise, consumer electronics and retail hard drives.

The Canada System Builders Choice Awards are sponsored by CRN Canada, e-channelNEWS and ChannelNEXT System Builder Canada.
