Seagate, QLogic, Condre Debut Low-Cost Fibre Channel Solutions For VARs At Intel Developer Forum

Seagate (NYSE: STX), together with QLogic and Condre, today announced a collaborative 2Gb/sec. Fibre Channel storage solution targeted at optimal performance and scalability at low cost. The new Fibre Channel solution was created for mid-tier and smaller enterprises that need the highest levels of system management and flexibility of Fibre Channel, but at a price on par with SCSI. The solution is being displayed at the Fibre Channel Partner Showcase booth #540 at the Intel Developer Forum and will be sold through Value Added Resellers.

The new Fibre Channel-based system is configured at a base capacity of 400 Gigabytes with storage up to 2.3 Terabytes and includes Seagate's award-winning Cheetah 10K- and 15K-rpm disk drives-- the enterprise industry standard. Use of a Fibre Channel configuration provides various advantages including absolute addressing, multiple device failure support, and point-to-point transfer capabilities. Fibre Channel is also the industry growth path to powerful enterprise-level storage area networks (SANs).

"With an emphasis on low-cost, high-performance Fibre Channel solutions, small and mid-sized businesses will now be able to lower their system Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)," said Brian Dexheimer, Seagate executive vice president, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. "IT Managers who have wanted the added flexibility and performance that Fibre Channel can provide, but in a more cost-effective package, can now obtain an ideal system from their VAR."

"The speed, distance and networkability benefits of upgrading from SCSI to Fibre Channel storage solutions are obvious to small and medium enterprises," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing QLogic Corp. "The Condre Solution, powered by QLogic and Seagate, sets an important trend for this important market."

"Condre is pleased to be part of this collaborative effort to support new markets and applications for Fibre Channel-based storage solutions," said Dennis Maetzold, President of Condre. "Low-cost Fibre Channel is now a reality."

Condre, a leading distributor of Fibre Channel storage solutions, will be the first to provide these low-cost Fibre Channel solutions for enterprise customers.
