Seagate And Adaptec Demonstrate New Storage Technology For High Bandwidth Applications

Today's businesses are faced with the challenge of managing growing amounts of data and at the same time finding ways to increase their server performance for faster access to that data. This week, Seagate Technology is demonstrating its 10K and 15K RPM Cheetah disc drives with Adaptec's Ultra320 SCSI RAID at the SAN East 2002 show to demonstrate how Ultra320 SCSI's greater bandwidth and performance enables increased efficiency for data-intensive business environments.

Seagate's 10K and 15K RPM Cheetah disc drives are the industry's most highly-decorated drive family and deliver the field-proven reliability and fast performance required for enterprise systems. The Adaptec SCSI RAID 2200S controller, announced yesterday as part of Adaptec's family of Ultra320 SCSI RAID cards, is an advanced-featured, dual channel Ultra320 controller ideal for entry-level and mid-range servers. Live demonstrations of Seagate and Adaptec's solutions will be conducted in the Washington D.C. Convention Center, booth #1018.

"High-performance disc drives and RAID controllers are vital to today's SAN systems as they are called on to manage mushrooming amounts of data," said Tim Connolly, director of RAID marketing for Adaptec's Storage Solutions Group. "This demonstration by technology leaders Seagate and Adaptec showcases the system bandwidth benefits of Ultra320 SCSI RAID for businesses seeking the highest-performing SANs today."

"The doubling of bus bandwidth is just one of the many benefits that Ultra320 SCSI provides," stated Gordy Lutz, Seagate product marketing manager. "Packetization allows for higher efficiency with less overhead and therefore increases performance. Additionally, Ultra320 SCSI transfer rates are conducted on all three communication phases to allow more information to go through the bus. Finally, increased reliability is delivered via CRC that checks the bus' signal integrity. These benefits together make Ultra320 SCSI an ideal I/O solution for a number of business-critical enterprise environments."
