Seagate Cheetahs Selected by HP for Ultimate Enterprise Performance, Reliability, and Value

Seagate Technology Inc. (NYSE:SEG) today announced that Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) will be the first to market with servers using Seagate's Cheetah 18XL, 36 and 73 disc drives. The drives will be incorporated into the HP SureStore E Disk System SC10, HP SureStore E Disk Array 12H and HP SureStore E Disk Array FC60. The Cheetahs deliver all the performance, reliability, and value that have helped make them the most highly awarded 10,000-RPM disc drive ever.

We are proud to implement Seagate's newest drive technology in the SC10, 12H and FC60, said Neal Clapper, general manager of HP's Modular Storage Organization. Seagate delivers some of the highest-performing and largest-capacity drives in the industry, which, when combined with HP's high-availability storage solutions, enable us to provide best-in-class performance for our enterprise storage customers.

Mission-critical online transacting processing applications such as e-commerce and Internet/Intranet applications require disc drives that can quickly and reliably handle the increased information demands, said David Wickersham, senior vice president of worldwide product line management, Seagate Technology. Seagate's Cheetah 18XL, 36 and 73 disc drives are ideal for this purpose and will help deliver the highest levels of storage quality, reliability and performance within HP's servers that its customers require.

HP is scheduled to begin shipping Seagate's newest drives with the HP SureStore E Disk System SC10, HP SureStore E Disk Array 12H and HP SureStore E Disk Array FC60 in April 2000. About the Cheetah 18XL, Cheetah 36 and Cheetah 73
The Cheetah 18XL, 36 and 73 disc drives are available in a range of high-performance interface choices including Ultra160 SCSI and 2Gbit Fibre Channel. The Cheetahs have a 45% faster data rate compared to their previous generation designs and are the industry's only fourth-generation 10,000-RPM disc drives to feature a 1,200,000 hour MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) rating. Their fast seek time, standard 4MB cache (with 16MB cache option), low acoustics, improved operational and non-operational shock, and low power consumption make them the drives of choice for enterprise servers that require legendary performance and reliability that can only be delivered by a Cheetah.
