A record number of 160 employees including a large number of first-time donors showed their support and caring attitude towards our community by coming forward to donate.
Medical personnel from the Penang Hospital Blood Bank were on hand to supervise the event and to perform blood tests.
Seagate Recording Head Operations vice president and managing director, David KH Ngu, said, "Seagate employees continually demonstrate their commitment to the community and have never failed to respond to the needs of the blood blank. The overwhelming response from all levels of employees is our way of demonstrating our seriousness in fulfilling our social responsibility."
He added that reports indicate that less than one percent of the people in the state donate blood in a year, which is a far cry from the three percent target which, according to the government, is necessary to meet the country's needs. He hopes that more large organizations would come forward to donate blood to help meet this goal.
In 1999, Seagate worked together with the Penang Hospital Blood Bank to develop a computerized application for the Blood Transfusion System. This system cost RM15,000, and the set-up of the computer system, purchase of software licenses and training of the blood bank personnel were undertaken by Seagate.
Seagate also received an award from the Penang State Health Department in conjunction with the 2000 World Health Day celebration last year. The award was given in the Industrial Factory Category for being the most active blood donor and having the most donors in this category for the year 2000.
