Seagate Donates 120 Hard Drives To Shakopee High School

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - The world today runs on information. Every time you access the Internet, hit "send," create digital images, watch TV or even enjoy a Hollywood blockbuster movie with computer-generated special effects, you create, access or share large amounts of digital information. And as digital information booms, Shakopee High School administrators have found that their need for more storage space on the 120-plus student computers had far surpassed their capacity.

The High School could save four to eight gigabytes worth of information on each one of the school's computers. This was equivalent to storing 5,616 copies of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn on a four-gigabyte hard drive. But now with Seagate Technology's recent donation of 120 hard drives, each stores 40 gigabytes of information upping the total school storage capacity to a total of 4,800 gigabytes-the equivalent to storing 2,246,400 copies of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

These 40-gigabyte Barracuda ATA IV hard drives will benefit the Shakopee students by providing them with the ability to store even more classroom-related information, projects and files on the school's computers.

"As programs and files become larger, hard drive storage space becomes more critical," said Wade Phillips, IT manger for Shakopee School District. "We value our relationship with Seagate and appreciate its commitment to the community and our schools. This donation will positively affect our student's ability to access and use technology throughout the school district."

"Seagate feels strongly about helping students in our community and giving them the right tools to learn," said Tom Hall, Seagate vice president of Human Resources. "It is important to support interest in technology among today's youth and this donation is a great way to do so."
