The Wuxi plant expansion represents another step forward in Seagate's efforts to strengthen its strategic presence in China.
"The Asia Pac region is a strategic base for Seagate in terms of both operations and sales," said Bill Watkins, Seagate's president and chief operating officer "Looking at the customer base here, government support for investment, the local talent pool, as well as macro-economic development, we believe our plant in Wuxi continues to be an important factor in Seagate's global success, and in Asia Pacific in particular."
The expanded Wuxi plant, occupying 35,000 sq m of factory floor, will house automated printed circuit board assembly lines, disc drive product lines and testing operations. The assembly operation consists of class 10 cleanrooms, a strictly controlled environment for industries like integrated circuits, aerospace and disc drive production.
"Jiangsu provincial government is very pleased to see Seagate's increased operations in the city of Wuxi," said Mr. Wang Rong-bin, vice governor of Jiangsu province. "Seagate has been a major catalyst for the economy of Wuxi and Jiangsu province. We congratulate Seagate on the expansion of its Wuxi facility."
Since 1995, Seagate Wuxi plant has shipped millions of Personal Storage products to Seagate's global customer base and has been recognized by the Chinese government with numerous accolades. Leveraging well-established local infrastructure and logistics support, along with Seagate's Six Sigma quality philosophy, Seagate Wuxi looks forward to its continuing role in providing best-in-class disc drives to meet the world's demand for data storage.
"Seagate Wuxi combines top-notch manufacturing technology and a strong pool of local engineering talent along with the gracious support of the government here," said Mr. Johnny Lau, Seagate vice president and general manager of China Operations. "We are proud to provide good jobs for thousands of people in the area, and we strive to be an Employer-of-Choice for those considering employment in the technology industry."
