"In our ongoing dialogue with channel partners, VARs and resellers, we are seeing a tremendous need for better data management capabilities, and a deeper understanding of the best solutions to meet specific customer needs," said BanSeng Teh, Seagate vice president and managing director for APAC. "Our Barracuda ES family of hard drives is designed to be at the core of today's most robust and reliable data management solutions. The Barracuda ES drive provides a significant boost in capacity and reliability that far exceed prior generations in meeting the need for cost-effective, Disk Array/WB server storage."
"With hard drives of 750GB in capacity and even larger drives on the horizon, there is a growing need for data management and RAID expertise," said Jonathan Chu, CSO of Promise Technology, Inc. "As the premier supplier of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)/SATA RAID solution, Promise is dedicated to develop advanced data protection features such as PerfectRAID(tm), PDM(tm) and RAID 6 double parity support to meet the needs of more robust data protection for today's massive capacity disc storage."
At the educational forums, Seagate and its partners, Coventive Technologies Inc. and Promise Technology Inc., will showcase applications where the Seagate Barracuda ES hard drive combines the highest capacity available with enterprise features demanded in 'multi-drive' capacity-intensive configurations, ideal for low cost-per-GB business storage solutions. Additional topics that will be discussed include serial ATA and SAS interface technologies.
With mission-critical enterprise storage continuing to drive core business server and storage needs, the digital revolution is challenging businesses of all sizes with storing, managing and protecting vast amounts of data. The Seagate Barracuda ES hard drive enables cost-efficient business-critical 'infrastructure' build-out, delivering the largest capacity hard drive to datacenters. The Barracuda ES targets storage solutions for today's fastest growing applications, including maximum capacity servers, rich media content, reference and compliance data, and data protection schemes such as disk-to-disk, virtual tape, snapshots and virtualization.
With SATA capacities up to a massive 750GBs, the Barracuda ES powers RAID sub-systems and external storage solutions, supporting 50% more capacity within the same system form factor.
The 7200-RPM Barracuda ES delivers increased reliability and features Rotational Vibration Feed Forward (RVFF) technology to sustain performance when placed in closely packed multi-drive system environments. Engineered to deliver the best Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rating possible, Seagate has also added Workload Management, a feature that helps protect the hard drive when thermal temperatures begin rising due to sustained heavy workloads, helping to keep drives and systems cool, increasing the reliability and longevity of the Barracuda ES drive.
The Barracuda ES drive is offered in a 3Gbit Serial ATA (SATA) version that includes Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and 8/16MB cache. With best-in-class storage density using perpendicular recording technology, the Barracuda ES drive is offered in capacities of 250, 400, 500, and 750GB. The Barracuda ES drive is also available in a 2Gbit FC version in capacities of 400 and 500GB.
