As the demand for storage continues to grow, Seagate has made a commitment to help system builders, in applications ranging from PCs and Notebooks to Consumer Electronics, integrate hard disc drives into their products. These manufacturers may be new to storage technology, especially in emerging Consumer Electronics markets, and Seagate's unique services can support these customers during the design and development of new platforms, such as Personal Video Recorders, handheld and home jukebox music players and Digital Cameras, as well as the development of innovative technical solutions for unique PC applications in Kiosk and Point-of-Sales (POS) terminals.
"We are excited about the directions our customers are taking in pursuing in the convergence of digital content, and they are keen to take better advantage of hard drives in creating innovative products," said Teh Ban Seng, Seagate vice president and managing director of Asia Sales and Marketing. "By working with the local integration support team and solving problems early in the lab instead of later in development or out in the field, customers can bring products to market faster, with increased functionality, lower overall cost and greater reliability."
Seagate's local integration support labs are a subset of DSC and are equipped with the test stations and technologies to assist Seagate customers through design and development for their storage-based solutions, providing technical expertise and support during product qualification and integration to optimize system performance, quality and reliability. The integration support labs services facilitate smooth integration of Seagate storage solutions and are offered at no extra cost to Seagate customers. The lab provides various tests for a number of applications and environments through its in-country engineering resources and compatibility centre. Thermal Testing and Analysis - Measures internal system temperatures and identifies potential cooling issues that helps improve long-term system reliability.
* Compatibility Testing - Tests compatibility of the entire solution, helping all features work at peak performance.
* Signal Integrity Testing - With a wide assortment of satellite downlinks and cable inputs, our engineers can test your existing and pre-launch systems with many leading program services.
* Packaging Design - Assists with developing specialized shipping cartons and product packaging for hard-drive capable devices. Seagate experience is unparalleled in package design that delivers optimal protection.
* Care and Handling Training - Teaches proper handling and shipping of hard-drive capable devices. This reduces returns and improves reliability.
The integration support lab in Taiwan is scheduled to open next month and will have a test capacity for about 50 systems and will be equipped with hard drive bus analysers, signal integrity and thermal analysis, among other testing equipment, to support system integration and help Seagate customers bring their products to market faster. Seagate expects the integration support lab in Japan to be ready by January 2005.
