Seagate Joins List of Distinguished Speakers at CASBAA 2001

SINGAPORE - Seagate today announced that Consumer Electronics storage expert Michael Sklar will speak as a panelist at Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) 2001 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong on 28-30 November. Sklar is senior director of Consumer Electronics Business Development for Seagate Technology, the world's top hard disc drive manufacturer and the leading storage technology provider for the Consumer Electronics (CE) industry. Currently in its 8th year, CASBAA 2001 is Asia's premier broadcasting technology event that provides a platform for compelling content, strategic dialogue and networking opportunities for the region's broadcasting industry.

Sklar will join other industry luminaries including Rob Glaser, Chairman & CEO, RealNetworks, Randy Brinkley, President, Boeing Space Systems and Creative Technology Founder and CEO, Sim Wong Hoo, in a discussion of the latest technology trends in broadcasting. On 29 November, Sklar will speak on a panel discussing the development of a broadband revolution that is driving innovation in entertainment delivery to consumers. The panel will explore the latest technology behind the revolution including the emergence of TV set-top-boxes equipped with hard disc drives, and the raft of devices incorporating data storage technology.

Sklar plays a key role at Seagate's Consumer Electronics Testing and Engineering Center (CETEC), managing dedicated CE resources and services, directing CE product qualifications, and introducing new products, services and software. Using real-time project data and customer feedback, Sklar helps CETEC engineers optimize future Seagate products for the CE market. He also directs Seagate's participation in developing industry standards to enable and support the requirements of CE devices.

CETEC is a key part of Seagate's strategy to help Consumer Electronics makers deliver disc drive-enabled CE devices such as Personal Video Recorders, game consoles, audio jukeboxes and Internet appliances. Through CETEC, Seagate partners directly with CE OEMs who need hands-on assistance integrating disc drives directly into new classes of consumer devices. CETEC is the industry's only Consumer Electronics-dedicated testing, integration and analysis facility. Seagate began working to develop the CE storage market very early, and in 1997 was first to deliver disc drives for use in this market.
