Seagate Names Outstanding Suppliers For FY2002

For their commitment to developing exceptional business relationships with Seagate in fiscal year 2002, the Company awarded special recognition to select suppliers in three categories: Outstanding Supplier, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, at its recent Supplier's Day celebration in Singapore.

This is Seagate's fourth annual Suppliers Day, an event that strengthens relationships between Seagate and its key global suppliers in delivering best-in-class production technology, leadership and supply chain excellence through alignment of key business objectives and strategic initiatives.

MMI Holdings Limited, Murata Electronics Singapore and Toyo Kohon Co Ltd., were each presented with Seagate's Outstanding Supplier Award. In addition to achieving top scores in Seagate's quarterly business reviews in their respective fields, these companies were recognized for their outstanding product quality, design and technology and cost competitiveness. They have also embraced Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma technologies to enhance their efficiency and supply line flexibility.

Seagate presented its Outstanding Supplier for Six Sigma Award to Shin-Etsu Electronics Materials Singapore Pte Ltd, which has made Six Sigma a part of its corporate culture through active engagement and deployment of Six Sigma methodologies in work processes. The joint Six Sigma deployment has resulted in realized and shared benefits for both Shinetsu and Seagate.

Seagate also used the occasion to present its first ever Outstanding Supplier Lean Manufacturing Award to STMicroelectronics for embracing and supporting Seagate's Lean Manufacturing methodology. STMicroelectronics maintained a flexible manufacturing infrastructure, increased efficiency, lowered costs and improved productivity.

"The theme for this year's Supplier's Day was 'Partners Strengthen The Chain'," said Karl Chicca, Seagate senior vice president of Global Materials. "This theme highlights our goal of achieving mutual success and acknowledges the challenges in the disc drive industry that require us to be tightly linked. We used this event to provide insight into how we can jointly strengthen the supply chain by leveraging Seagate's key initiatives - like Six Sigma, Supply Chain, Lean Manufacturing, and eBusiness to create a firm foundation for ongoing success."
