Seagate Partners with ACER to Deliver New Concept PC at GITEX 2001

Seagate Technology today announced that its ultra quiet Barracuda. ATA IV 7,200-rpm hard drive will be featured in a new concept PC, the ACER Aspire EL, to be unveiled at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) show on October XX, 2001 in Dubai, UAE. ACER's Aspire EL combines the new Intel. 845 chipset and Pentium. 4 processor, Seagate's Barracuda ATA IV and other cutting edge technologies to deliver a new concept in high performance PCs.

Among the innovations to be showcased in the Aspire EL are the ACER "Go To Drive," a swappable second hard drive tray, front-access USB, plus new A/V and security features.

"We selected the Seagate Barracuda ATA IV drive due to its outstanding performance and low acoustics, which were key design goals for the new Aspire series," said Mr. Raghu Sanjeevappa, Senior Business Development Manager of ACER Middle East.

Barracuda ATA IV is the industry's only 7,200-rpm disc drive to achieve 80 Gbytes using just two discs. It's also the only PC disc drive shipping exclusively with Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) motors. Seagate's revolutionary SoftSonic FDB motor makes Barracuda ATA IV the world's only virtually silent hard drive. The Seagate drive's unique combination of fast access to data and quiet acoustics enables the Aspire EL to achieve new heights of performance and silent operation.

Since its debut in July 2001, Barracuda ATA IV has received recognition from leading technology publications worldwide. In September, the hard drive was named Editor's Choice by PC Shopper China and PC.com Malaysia, and was highly recommended by PC DIY Taiwan. It also notched 5 stars rating in Best in Korea benchmark testing and was dubbed "King of Hard Drive" by www.8080.net China in August, among other accolades.
