Seagate Presents The 2002 CRN India Channel Awards

Seagate Technology, the world's leading hard disc drive supplier, today joins with Computer Reseller News (CRN) India for the second consecutive year in presenting the 2002 CRN Channel Awards for outstanding IT Channel companies. The CRN Channel Awards are the country's only comprehensive recognition for the best resellers and channel partners in India's IT distribution business.

The CRN Channels Awards are unique in that they highlight organizations adding true value to the distribution network and employing best practices to service end customers, and are not based only on turnover and revenue growth. This year there will be eight award categories: Reseller's Metro Regions (Regional), Reseller Developing Markets (Regional), Best Value-added Reseller (Regional), Best Enterprise Networking VAR (Regional), Best Storage VAR (Regional), Best Software VAR (National), Sub-Distributors (National) and Hall Of Fame (Editorial Choice). The criteria for selecting winners are: the nature/quality of service provided, the range of products offered, business practices, client base and value-added offerings in the Indian IT market.

"Seagate is very focused on the IT channel in India and we believe that the distribution network is an integral part of the industry. The channel is a core part of our strategy to deliver not only the best products, but the best experience to end users," said Sharad Srivastava, country manager, Seagate India. "Our support of the CRN Channel Awards is one demonstration of our commitment to the IT channel here."

In a move to establish closer working relationships with its valued channel partners, Seagate launched the Seagate Partner Program for Disc and Tape products in India in 1999. Designed exclusively for resellers of Seagate storage solutions, the Seagate Partner Program has enabled the Company to be more responsive and proactive to the channel's need for information on its products and ultimately helped assist resellers in selling those products.

In June 2001, CRN USA selected both Seagate's Barracuda 180 and Cheetah X15 36LP disc drives for its "Building The Ultimate PC" demonstrations at PC Expo - Tech XNY 2001 in New York. For "The Ultimate PC," only the best products are chosen for the live demonstrations. As the disc drive with the world's largest capacity, the Barracuda 180 was selected for its ability to store an unprecedented 180 gigabytes of information in a 3.5-inch form factor, while the Cheetah X15 is acclaimed worldwide as the fastest disc drive on the planet. Both of the drives also have the highest reliability rating in the industry.

According to a recent CRN quarterly industry audit, Seagate continues to lead the HDD market in India. Seagate is the market leader in each of the segments in which it competes and provides a broad range of disc drives in capacities up to an industry-leading 180 gigabytes. Its comprehensive line up of disc drives includes products for the desktop PC market, Consumer market, higher performance PC and workstation drives, and higher-capacity drives for the storage and performance-intensive network server, disc array and audio-visual (A/V) markets. Seagate is also the market leader in storage technology for Consumer Electronics devices, and has shipped over 2.5 million disc drives in this segment.
