Seagate Provides Children's Day Gift of Brand New PCs to Henderson Student Care Center

SINGAPORE - For children under the care of the Singapore Children's Society's Henderson Student Care Centre (Henderson Centre), spending long hours traveling to their friends' homes to complete their schoolwork on computers will be a thing of the past.

This is because they can now work on any one of the seven brand new web-enabled PCs that will be installed at the Henderson Centre as a Children's Day gift from hard disc drive leader, Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX). Children's Day falls on October 1.

With this donation, not only will the children have easy access to computers to conduct research on the Internet and finish their homework at the center where they are being cared for and looked after, they will also have more opportunities to practice and improve their IT skills with the help of the staff at the Henderson Centre.

"Many of the children at the center do not have the opportunities that other children have in being exposed to computers," says Hong Kim Beng, Head of the Henderson Student Care Centre. "As our society becomes increasingly reliant on computers, it is important that the children here are not left out. This Children's Day gift from Seagate is timely, and a positive and exciting development for the center."

"We're hoping to provide meaningful support with long-term benefits for these under-served children," says Teh Ban Seng, Seagate vice president of Asia Sales and Marketing. "Seagate is a firm believer in equal opportunity, and in making education accessible to all. Not only will the children be able to pick up IT skills, we also believe that learning with computers can provide a more impactful experiential lesson that enhances what they have been taught in the classroom."

The PC donation is part of Seagate's on-going partnership with Henderson Centre to develop enrichment and education programs for children.

Through these activities, both Seagate and Henderson hope to strengthen the children's academic achievement as well as to improve their self-esteem and outlook on life through novel and innovative programs that encourage creativity and self-confidence.

Seagate's latest contribution will include:

- Children's Day gift of seven PCs complete with Microsoft applications and educational software;
- Hiring qualified tutors to provide tuition lessons before the major school examinations in May and October.
- Suitable enrichment workshops to develop personal growth and provide experiential learning through fun and interactive methodologies and activities;
- "Back-to-School" Fund where a pool of resources is reserved for children to purchase new school uniforms, shoes and textbook for the new academic year.

Seagate has been working closely with the Henderson Centre since 2001. The partnership has resulted in Seagate being named a top five finalist for the President's Social Service Award 2004.
