Seagate Recognizes Excellence in Digital Technology for Films and Television at Broadcast India 2001

Seagate Technology, the world's leading hard disc drive (HDD) supplier, will present the first annual Awards for Excellence in Digital Technology for Films and Television at Broadcast India 2001, India's premier film and video industry exhibition, held at Mumbai from November 1 to November 3, 2001. The awards ceremony will be held the evening of November 2.

The Seagate awards are endorsed by two key organizations representing the Indian film and TV industries: Radio Advertisers & TV Practitioners Association of India (RAPA), and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Award winners are determined by a panel of judges who hail from the film and TV industries. Seagate developed this year's inaugural awards in conjunction with Saicom, the organizer of Broadcast India 2001.

"This is the only film and video industry recognition of its kind in India," said Sharad Srivastava, country manager, Seagate India. "As the leader in providing storage solutions for the film, broadcasting and video markets, Seagate has taken the initiative to recognize the professionals who use advanced technology to entertain us, make us think and make us laugh."

"We are extremely thrilled to have Seagate with us at the event to promote advanced technology use in the content creation field. This kind of recognition really helps to further the convergence of computing and entertainment," said Madhu Shrivastav, president, RAPA.

In September, nominations for the Seagate Awards for Excellence were solicited. "We received a tremendous response-87 nominations across the categories," added Sharad. "The entertainment, content creation and distribution segments have embraced Seagate's effort to encourage the use of digital technology."

The Seagate awards will be presented in several categories, including Best Digital Visual Effects - Feature Film; Best Digital Visual Effects - Tele Serial; Best Digital Visual Effects - Ad/Promo/Commercial; Best 3D Animation - Feature Film; Best 3D Animation - Serial/Ad/Promo/Short Film; Best 2D Animation - Feature Film; Best 2D Animation - Short Film/Serial/Ad/Promo; Best Animated 3D/2D Logo/ Channel ID.

Winners of the Seagate Awards for Excellence in Digital Technology for Films and Televisions will take home the first trophies in what could become a new standard of industry recognition in the region. "We hope to see the Seagate awards become as prestigious as receiving a regional Oscar in the technical field of motion pictures and the arts," said Ramesh Meer, director, Saicom, organizer of Broadcast India.

The event will be held at the Starters & More, Eros Theatre Building, Churchgate, Mumbai. Exhibitors at Broadcast India 2001, VIPs of various TV channels, VIPs from the film industry, nominees, judges and the media have been invited to attend the ceremony. The awards will be presented by Madhu Shrivastav, president, RAPA, Pappu Verma, president, FWICE and Opender Channa, secretary, FWICE.
