Seagate Removable Storage Solutions (RSS) Announces Appointment of Howard Matthews to VP and General Manager

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Seagate Removable Storage Solutions (RSS), a Seagate company and a leading manufacturer of computer tape drive and tape head products, today announced the appointment of Howard L. Matthews as vice president and general manager for Seagate RSS, effective March 20, 2002. Matthews will oversee the continued strategic development and direction of RSS including all functions for the group?s Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Product Management and Planning and Manufacturing Operations. Larry McMannon, Seagate RSS vice president and general manager for the past four years, has announced his retirement. Howard Matthews will report to Don Waite, president of Seagate RSS and executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Seagate Technology.

Matthews joins Seagate RSS from Matthews, White & Company, a consulting and advisory services group for start-up, emerging-growth and turnaround technology, services and distribution companies where he served as chairman since 1999. Prior to Matthews, White & Company, he served as a consultant specializing in corporate finance and general management advisory capacities for companies, including InterVU, a public Internet company; Intrepid Systems, a private retail applications software company; Storability, a provider of data storage services to Global 2000 companies; and Andataco, a private integrator and distributor of UNIX-based data storage solutions. His career spans more than 25 years and includes increasing management responsibilities with TriQuest Capital Corp., Auto Parts Club, Office Club, Inc., Pacific Stereo Corp., CBS, Inc., and Aerojet General Corp. Matthews earned a bachelor?s degree in world affairs at Occidental College, Los Angeles, and an MBA in finance from University of California, Berkeley.

Larry McMannon was appointed vice president and general manager in 1998 and his career includes more than 35 years of general and financial management experience in the computer industry. McMannon joined Seagate through its merger with Conner Peripherals in 1996 as vice president of Finance for Seagate RSS

DDS, Travan and LTO Ultrium Product Lines

Seagate RSS' Scorpion Digital Data Storage (DDS) drives and autoloaders, with compressed capacities of up to 240 Gbytes, are designed for a wide range of system platforms from high-performance workstations and large PC servers up to midrange servers. To meet the backup requirements of users with workstations and small PC servers, Seagate RSS' Hornet Travan drives provide compressed capacities of up to 40 Gbytes. Seagate RSS offers TapeStor Travan tape drives and TapeStor DAT bundled solutions that include backup software, data cartridges and accessories.
