Seagate SATA Technology is Chosen for World Cyber Games 2004

Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX) today announced that it is the sole storage provider for World Cyber Games 2004 (Singapore Finals). As the official "Gamers' Choice Storage Partner," Seagate's Barracuda 7200.7 SATA drives are installed in all 120 game stations for the cyber tournament. The adoption of Seagate's SATA drives for the renowned World Cyber Games has once again affirmed Seagate's leadership in serial interface technology.

Organized at Suntec City Convention Hall 603, from 8 September to 11 September, this year World Cyber Games (Singapore finals) is positioned as the Cyber Festival showcasing e-culture and e-community. It is expected to draw a crowd of 3,000 amateur and professional gamers. In addition, game developers, game creators and hall of fame gamers will participate in video conferences, seminars and master classes to discuss game and content development during the event.

"Storage solutions must not only support gamers' need for higher capacity but more importantly, the need for data integrity, quiet operation and faster access speed at an affordable price," said Mr. Robert Yang, Seagate director of Sales & Marketing and General Manager of South Asia and Korea. "By using a faster and higher performance drive, gamers can have the extra edge in performance and uninterrupted high resolution graphics when they compete. The adoption of our Barracuda SATA drives in the World Cyber Games clearly demonstrates Seagate's technology leadership."

High data transfer rates of up to 1.5 Gbits/sec coupled with uncompromised data integrity position SATA as the interface of choice for gamers. The ability of Seagate's Barracuda SATA drives to deliver excellent performance in SYSMark 2001 (322) and 3Dmark 2001 (17934), has helped Infocomm Gaming Beast 3.2, TI AMD Super Power Pack, Pioneer Computers Digital Home and Altech Game Force Warrior win the PC World Best Buys Awards by Australian PC World, making it the ideal machine for frantic gaming.

First-party DMA (Direct Memory Access) support, together with intelligent data handling and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) on data command and status ensures that the disparity in rapid changing, high resolution video images is kept to a minimal. Gamers are able to integrate a network of computers easily since Barracuda SATA drives, coupled with hot swap functionality, provide point to point connection, which features a 1/2 inch wide snap-in blade and beam connector and thin cable of up to 1 meter in length.

The World Cyber Games is currently the world's first "Cyber Games Festival", designed to foster a healthy cyber culture. The best gamers around the world gather in different cities to share in the excitement of tournament play. Held on an annual basis since 2000, the World Cyber Games has continued to set the standard in global game competitions as well as providing comprehensive and fun game-related content. Its current viewer-ship stands at a staggering 900 million people worldwide.
