Seagate Savvio Disc Drives Make the Cut for IBM BladeCenter

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX) today announced that IBM has selected Seagate's revolutionary 2.5-inch Savvio enterprise class disc drive for use in its IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20 systems. By using Seagate Savvio drives, BladeCenter HS20 servers are able to take advantage of the enterprise-class, high-duty cycle reliability disk drives and true, full-featured I/O protocol for enterprise-class performance onboard a blade.

IBM BladeCenter HS20 systems are powerful Intel-Xeon based blade servers that deliver uncompromising performance for mission-critical applications. Packed with high availability features, BladeCenter delivers density without sacrificing processor performance and also is highly scalable and modular in design for adding additional storage capacity when needed.

"IBM BladeCenter systems are the ultimate enterprise solutions for getting the maximum high-density processing and scaling power," said Jeff Benck, vice president of eServer BladeCenter. "Now with Seagate's Savvio 2.5-inch drives, our customers can take advantage of having greater storage options and system flexibility with SCSI performance."

"Seagate worked closely with IBM early on to address the need for an onboard storage solution that could enable a small footprint blade system to deliver pure enterprise-class storage for IT professionals who demand nothing less," said Jeff Loebbaka, Seagate vice president of Global Marketing. "Savvio drives fulfilled the need. It features all the enterprise performance and reliability available in Seagate's award-winning Cheetah drives, but packed into a 2.5-inch form factor that uses 70% less space."

IBM will begin shipping Seagate Savvio drives within BladeCenter HS20 systems on November 12. For more information about IBM enterprise storage solutions, visit For more information about Seagate and its family of enterprise disc products, visit
