Seagate Singapore Turns 20

This is a special year for the thousands of employees at Seagate Singapore. It marks the 20th anniversary of the Company's operations here, and since January employees have enjoyed celebrations and special events recognizing their spirit of achievement, commitment and excellence, which has helped build Seagate into a world-class organization.

Singapore represented Seagate's first investment outside the United States when it established its disc drive assembly plant here in 1982. The operation quickly expanded to include recording media, research and development as well as sales and marketing, finance, HR and other functions. Over the years, Seagate has continued to optimize its operations in Singapore, which support the Company's vertical integration and technology leadership strategy.

Congratulating Seagate on its 20th anniversary, Mr. Teo Ming Kian, Chairman, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said, "Seagate has been a good economic partner and corporate citizen to Singapore. With its substantial operations here, especially with the R&D capability it has built up and its Factory of the Future, the Company has been instrumental in taking the hard disc drive industry in Singapore to great heights. We have come far together and look forward to an even closer partnership in the exciting journey ahead."

When Seagate established its operation in Singapore 20 years ago, its hard disc drives helped create the PC revolution. Today, the Company is helping to revolutionize the way people live, work and play by enabling the growth of the Internet and new applications, putting the world's information at your fingertips. And storage technology, Seagate's core business, has become the center of the new computing architecture.

"It is a pleasure to stand between the past and the future, contemplating the history we have made and that which we have yet to make," said Steve Luczo, Seagate chairman and CEO. "As we begin our third decade in Singapore, Seagate is being recognized as a true innovator in our industry. We have adapted and evolved and look ahead to new opportunities, new challenges and continued success for our employees."

"Seagate has established themselves as a market-share, technology and operational leader in a very challenging industry," said Steve LaVerde, director of Texas Instruments' Storage Product Business Unit. "Having a 20 year relationship with a successful company like Seagate is something we are very proud of. Through this relationship, Texas Instruments has been challenged to continuously improve. We look forward to continuing this successful relationship for years to come."

Many employees who helped establish Seagate here are still with the Company 20 years later. They have been instrumental in the growth and development of Seagate, as well as an entire industry here in Singapore. "We were focused on building a successful facility," recalled Bay BoonKhiang, Seagate executive director of Enterprise Storage Products, on his team's role in the start up of Seagate's drive assembly plant in Singapore. "We were not even aware at the time that we would be creating a new supply base, and a new industry, in Singapore. I'm proud to be part of a team which has contributed to the success of Singapore and of Seagate."

As the Company and its employees mark this important milestone, Seagate salutes the thousands of people in Singapore who have been part of its success.
