"The recent survey validates our assessment in the last survey covering April, May and June, that Seagate would further consolidate its market leadership position in the coming quarters," says Aushutosh Bhagwat, director of Customized Research at ACNielsen. "Seagate's product and service initiatives to address the growing opportunities in disc drive applications and customer needs will continue to position the Company at the forefront of the hard disc drive industry."
An interesting feature revealed by independent market research company ACNielsen's finding is that while assemblers/system integrators continue to dominate the market, accounting for 55% of all hard drives sold, local OEMs have overtaken global OEMs in second place. Local OEMs now account for 26% of the market compared to 19% for Global OEMs.
In hard disc drives, the market share of Seagate's nearest competitor fell to 17.1% from 26% in the previous quarter - significantly widening the gulf and differentiating hard disc drive leader Seagate from the rest of the competition.
"This latest report confirms that Seagate is providing the quality products and services that have made it the brand of choice throughout India," said Sharad Srivastava, country manager for Seagate India. "It is also rewarding to see the strong positive customer response to our recent 5-year warranty initiative, and our move to provide increased support to our 700+ channel partners in India with 32 SeaCare Centers in cities countrywide. I am confident that Seagate will continue to remain the preferred brand for enterprise and end-user customers in India."
Seagate's unique capabilities, including the breadth of its technology portfolio and its investments in leading-edge product design and reliability, have been fully leveraged to create arguably the broadest product line targeting the widest range of applications and customers in the history of the disc drive industry.
Seagate disc drives include the world's first 1-inch 5GB hard drive, solutions in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors, Serial ATA, Serial Attached SCSI and Fibre Channel interfaces, with speeds of up to 15,000 RPM and storage capacities of up to 500GB - allowing Seagate to address approximately 97% of the total available market for disc drives globally, which is expected to grow from 261 million units in 2003 to 380 million units in 2006, according to TrendFOCUS.
