Seagate Supplies 1-Inch Hard Drives to NHJ's Innovative Audio Players

Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world's largest supplier of hard drives for consumer electronics, announced today that NHJ Ltd, a Japanese company offering lifestyle products with cutting edge technology, has chosen Seagate's ST1 Series 1-inch hard disc drive for it's innovative digital music players. NHJ has chosen the drive for its new VHD5100 and VHD5500 digital audio players featuring viewer and wireless functions. The VHD5100 will be available beginning in May and the VHD5500 beginning in June worldwide.

With Seagate's ST1 Series, both models will leverage Seagate's unique RunON Technology and G-Force Protection. RunOn Technology is to ensure consistent music playback while in a high-motion environment, such as jogging - the drive actually senses and compensates for motion to stay on track while G-Force Protection technology protects the drive against shock from mishandling increasing the robustness of the devices into which it is integrated. This unique rugged design has changed the playing field for 1-inch hard drives, helping audio players better withstand the abuse that handheld devices are subject to.

"By leveraging the Seagate's unique disc drive technologies into our architecture, we are delivering innovative digital audio players to consumers," said Maj Harilela, president and CEO of NHJ. "We are delighted with Seagate's ST1 Series 1-inch hard drive's performance, reliability, battery life and cost that meet our stringent requirements and we successfully integrated unique functions like viewing into VHD 5100 and wireless headphone utilizing Bluetooth into VHD5500 and enriching our product line-up."

"Seagate continues to work closely with our customers like NHJ to understand and align with their technology and needs," said Tom Kobayashi, President of Nippon Seagate Inc. "Seagate listened to the music player market and developed the Seagate ST1 Series to deliver what consumer electronics companies need most - quiet acoustics, high reliability, and top streaming performance for digital media. Seagate believes that our ST1 Series will pave the way for further opportunities as the leader in consumer electronics hard drives."

Seagate is the only hard drive company to provide CE manufacturers with a comprehensive package of products, technology and services. Seagate's unique Design Service Centers (DSC) for Consumer Electronics in the US and Singapore offer a variety of services, including testing, integration and mechanical analysis, to help customers design, innovate and deliver new hard drive-capable entertainment devices.

With Seagate drives, consumers today have unprecedented control of their media sources. Seagate drives help people control TV content with Digital Video Recorders, music in digital jukeboxes and handheld players, and the immersive game experiences of hard drive-enabled game consoles like Xbox.
