Seagate Supports Environmental Conservation Through Global Eco Film Festival

TOKYO - Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world's leading hard drive maker, and Nippon Seagate Inc., its affiliate in Japan, today announced Seagate's support of the EARTH VISION Global Environmental Film Festival. The festival was established as a means to address, through film and video, the environmental issues facing society on a global scale. Along with its ongoing implementation of community and social responsibility activities inaugurated in 2005 to mark the 20th anniversary of Seagate's establishment in Japan, the company is collaborating with the EARTH VISION Organization (president: Hiroshi Okazaki, president of the global environmental forum, secretary general: Hiroo Nozawa, Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) to highlight the importance of addressing global environmental concerns.

The 14th EARTH VISION Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival attracts large numbers of entries from around the world and looks at environmental problems from a range of perspectives. The competition category division of the festival attracted 101 entries from 16 countries and territories around the world and the winning entries were screened in Tokyo.

The winner of the EARTH VISION Grand Prize at this year's festival was a work called "Rainbow" by Palestinian director Abdalsalam Shehada. Seagate donated a 400-GB 3.5-inch external hard drive as a supplementary prize, and presented all prizewinners with 5-GB Seagate Pocket Hard Drives.

EARTH VISION Organization's secretary general, Hiroo Nozawa, said: "We would like to express our gratitude to Seagate and other sponsors without whose cooperation the EARTH VISION Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival, including this year's event, would not be possible. Through the medium of film, our sponsors not only assist in public education activities, which are extremely vital for protecting the environment of the earth on which we live our daily lives, but also provide the support that enables those films to be seen by larger numbers of people. This support encourages us and spurs us on as we continue our activities."

Tsuyoshi Kobayashi, president of Nippon Seagate, Inc., said: "As a global corporation, Seagate makes many social contributions worldwide. It is a great honor to be able to participate in the activities of the EARTH VISION Organization."

About EARTH VISION
Bringing awareness of global environmental issues through films "EARTH VISION - The Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival," has been held annually in Tokyo as a visual forum to examine our environment through moving images. Official entries are chosen by public invitation from Polynesia, Oceania, and Asia, including Japan. Film entries are screened for judging. Accepting entries from both amateurs and professionals is an important characteristic of this film festival.

A place for broadening networks and exchanging ideas since its establishment in 1992, the film category has become a great forum for discussion between filmmakers and audiences alike. The festival invites nominated filmmakers each year to discuss their work. In 2002, Ecomove International was launched by five European international film festivals and EARTH VISION as the network of international environmental film festivals across the world. Ecomove International organizes and supports environmental media events of global scale. And every second year, Ecomove stages a festival of environmental film festivals where the world's best environmental films are shown and awarded. Screening events are organized in Japan and abroad.
