Seagate Supports Hard Disc Drive Museum In Poland

Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world's leading manufacturer of hard disc drives, today announced the donation of legacy Seagate hard drives to the first Museum of Hard Disc Drives in Poland. The Museum has been established by MBM Ontrack, a company specialising in data recovery.

Seagate Technology provided three models of hard disc drives manufactured in the 1980's: ST4038, ST225 and ST125. Developed in 1985, the ST4038, with a capacity of 38 MB, was very popular with OEMs at that time. The drive was used in the second generation of Personal Computers from IBM, the PC AT.

The ST225 family was developed in 1986 as the first-to-market, low cost 5.25-inch hard drive. The ST125 family, available with AT and SCSI interface, was the first 3.5-inch drive from Seagate. It was introduced in 1988.

"Seagate Technology is committed to initiatives aimed at popularising technology and IT knowledge," said Wojciech Puchalski, Channel Sales Representative, Seagate Technology, responsible for Central and Eastern Europe. "That is why we decided to support the Museum of Hard Disc Drives in Poland. We are pleased that our exhibits represent the storied history of this important technology."

The Museum of Hard Disc Drives will popularise the history of dynamic development of informatics among PC users. "We are glad that our initiative has gained the support of the biggest manufacturer of hard disc drives. The drives donated to the Museum by Seagate are the most precious exhibits of our collection," said Marcin Musil, managing director of MBM Ontrack data recovery.

The inauguration of The Museum of Hard Disc Drives will take place during Komputer Expo Fair 2004 in Warsaw. A week afterwards the collection will be transferred to the Silesian Museum in Katowice, where it will be locally relaunched. Finally the exhibits will be transferred to the headquarters of MBM Ontrack in Katowice.
