Seagate Technology's Jim Chirico and Bob Whitmore Named Executive Vice Presidents

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX) today announced it has named Jim Chirico and Bob Whitmore to the positions of executive vice president, Global Disc Storage Operations and executive vice president, Product and Process Development, respectively. Both Chirico and Whitmore will continue reporting to Dave Wickersham, chief operating officer.

A 25-year industry veteran, Chirico was formerly senior vice president of Seagate's drive operations in Asia, which included facilities in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. In his new role his responsibilities will expand to include all of Seagate's global operations, including materials, supply chain management, component manufacturing and final drive assembly. Chirico came to Seagate in 1998 as senior vice president for Worldwide Manufacturing Quality, following 17 years at IBM where he held a number of management positions in manufacturing and operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics Management from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island.

Whitmore has 20 years of experience at Seagate, serving in a variety of engineering and management positions primarily directed at product design and development. Most recently, Whitmore was senior vice president, Product Development, responsible for managing worldwide disc drive development at design centers located in Minnesota, Colorado and Singapore. Under Whitmore's leadership, Seagate's vision of technology platforms to build multiple products became a reality and increased the company's market access from 75% to 97% over a two-year span. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
