Seagate Technology Acquires Leading Online Analytical Processing Vendor, Holistic Systems, for $84 Million

Seagate Technology, Inc. (NYSE:SEG), today announced the $84 million acquisition of privately held Holistic Systems, Ltd., a UK-based global leader in the fast-growing market for Enterprise Business Intelligence systems. The cash acquisition has been approved by both companies and is effective immediately. Holistic Systems will join Seagate Software, Information Management Group (IMG), which markets the Crystal line of leading query and reporting products, including Crystal Reports and Crystal Info. The combined technologies provide customers with information access and analysis offerings that scale from the desktop to the enterprise including: query and reporting, automated report scheduling and distribution, information delivery across the World Wide Web, online analytical processing (OLAP), forecasting, statistical analysis, discovery and data mining. Steve Luczo, chief operating officer of Seagate Software, said Holistic is a significant addition to Seagate Software, IMG. We evaluated a range of companies in the Business Intelligence market and selected Holistic Systems because of its solid customer base and industry leading technology. With the addition of Holistic, Seagate Software now has a complete line of business intelligence software ranging from desktop to large-scale deployment. Holistic Systems principal global and U.S. offices will remain in London and Edison, N.J. respectively. Holistic Systems chairman and chief executive officer, Derek Taylor, will report to Greg Kerfoot, president of Seagate Software, IMG. Greg Kerfoot formerly was President of Crystal Services, which was acquired by Seagate Technology in 1994. In joining Seagate Software, IMG we gain significant product and distribution synergies, as well as the extensive financial resources to accelerate adoption of our combined Business Intelligence solutions, said Derek Taylor. The goal of Seagate Software, IMG is to help corporations answer their day-to-day business questions, said Greg Kerfoot. The combination of the powerful analytical capabilities of Holos with the flexible open architecture of the Crystal product line creates a complete line of Enterprise Business Intelligence solutions for desktop- to large-scale deployment, and allows us to meet this goal.
