Seagate U Series Is Drive Of Choice For NETEC Quality PD Project

SINGAPORE -

Seagate Technology, the world's largest disc drive supplier, announced today that the Thai Computer Consortium and National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) have selected Seagate's U Series disc drive for the NECTEC Quality PC Project after careful quality testing and qualification. All NECTEC-certified computers in Thailand must adhere to NECTEC's quality and certification standards and will carry project labels to ensure customers of product quality.

Launched in October last year, the Quality PC Project was initiated to raise the standards and specifications of local brand PCs to match international standards. This is in line with the policy of the Thai government to provide their people with high technology at competitive prices. A total of 13 local PC assemblers cooperated with NECTEC to participate in this project.

"The Thai government has shown support in making Thailand an IT powerhouse in Southeast Asia," said Dr. Pansak Siriruchatapong, deputy director of NECTEC. "The NECTEC Quality PC Project is one example where we continue to drive innovation and ensure the highest quality standards in our local computer products as we elevate the IT industry in Thailand to new heights. We are pleased to work with the participating local PC companies and suppliers such as Seagate to bring about the success of this project."

"Seagate is glad to be part of the NECTEC Quality PC Project and its success," said Robert Yang, Seagate general manager for South Asia Sales and Marketing. "Once again, the world's best-selling disc drive - Seagate U Series - has proven its mettle by providing a combination of robustness, reliability and quiet operation that meets computer makers and NECTEC'S stringent requirements and quality standards. Seagate will continue to thrive on innovation and deliver leading edge technologies that shape the storage industry in Thailand and around the globe for the better."

U Series is available in capacities of 20, 40, 60 and 80 Gbytes. As the first 40-Gbyte-per-disc product shipping in volume, U Series changes the economics of high-capacity storage with 60 and 80 Gbytes packed onto only two discs. At the same time, it provides the best value for today's popular PC capacities, including the Quality PCs built for Thai consumers. Seagate U Series disc drives deliver 5,400-rpm performance and best-in-class reliability for PC and consumer-electronics applications. U Series ships with Seagate's exclusive 3D Defense System to lead the industry in ruggedness and data protection. Seagate's 3D Defense System includes the patented SeaShell packaging, soft SeaShield protective cover, SeaTools Suite diagnostic software and award-winning DiscWizard installation software.

Seagate is the world's leading provider of storage technology for Internet, business and consumer applications. The Company's products include disc drives for the Enterprise, PCs and Consumer Electronics, as well as Storage Area Network (SAN) solutions.
